Dec 3 Best Family-Friendly Things to Do This Winter

The frosty, cold temperatures make the perfect backdrop for these family-friendly wintertime activities on Long Island’s East End. Escape the cold or embrace it with these timeless activities:

Visit the Children’s Museum

The idea for this museum originated around a kitchen table when 7 East End moms decided they wanted an accessible space where children could learn about the world in a fun, interactive way. Its first exhibit was built with the help of local businesses, families and volunteer carpenters, artists, and educators among others. Today it’s a successful museums where children can learn about physics and math on a 9-hole mini-golf course, make a masterpiece in their art studio or enjoy a book in their reading room. It is open Sunday – Monday: 9am – 5pm and Wednesday – Saturday: 9am – 5pm. It only costs $12 to enter and best suite for kids ages 2-10.

See the Aquarium

See Long Island’s only aquarium, right here in Riverhead. The “Lost City of Atlantis Shark Exhibit” is currently on view, where kids can get up close and personal with sand tiger sharks, nurse sharks and a gaping moray eel all with the backdrop of Poseidon’s 12-foot trident, pillars, and other pieces of the Lost City. Get an even closer look at these majestic creatures by making a reservation for a Shark Dive. You’ll be put in a cage and dipped into the aquarium’s shark exhibit. However, that experience is not for the young–participants must be older than 12 and those 12 -17 must be accompanied by an adult.

Ice skate under the stars at the rink at the Buckskill Winter Club in East Hampton. It offers public ice skating every day of the week, just check their schedules for times.
