Feb Live at the Indigo Ballroom – Bakithi Kumalo and Friends

Find your groove on Saturday, February 24 from 7:00 – 10:00 pm as we bring you a legendary Live at the Indigo Ballroom Event with bassist Bakithi Kumalo.

Originally from South Africa, Bakithi Kumalo first came to New York at the request of the iconic Paul Simon. Brought into the studio to record bass on Simon’s 1986 album “Graceland”, Bakithi has been a member of Paul Simon’s band ever since.

Bakithi Kumalo and his South African All-Stars is made up of world class musicians who have toured the world with every kind of musician you can think of. You will hear a fusion of jazz and South African sounds as the bass, piano, and drums set the ear enchanting stage, and the saxophone will come in to soothe and excite your soul with easy listening sounds. They will get your body moving as they pick up the tempo with some traditional African songs, a little penny whistle and Bakithi will sing and perhaps involve your singing filling the atmosphere with joy and laughter. If you’re lucky, you’ll hear some originals the band wrote and perhaps a tune or two you will find very familiar with the original soloists who played on the records.

You are sure to feel the beat, move your feet, give a chuckle or two, and be in the presence of greatness as they take you deep into South Africa.

Fortunately, even after decades of performing on the world’s biggest stages, Kumalo still recognizes the importance of playing locally and connecting with the community here on Long Island.
