Nov 5 Reasons To Be Thankful for the North Fork This Season

The end of the year is close in sight and we look forward to 2016 with excitement. Each November, at Thanksgiving, we take the opportunity to reflect on what we are truly thankful for. Here at Hotel Indigo we are thankful to be located in a wonderful place like the North Fork. While there are so many reasons to be happy about life on the East End here are just a few unique things to be especially grateful for.

The Vineyards
The North Fork is well known for the local vineyards but we are especially thankful for all the award-winning wines that have put our region on the wine-drinking map. This year alone, Lieb Cellars’ 2013 Reserve Pinot Blanc was given the distinction of being one of the top wines at The Wall Street Journal’s annual dozen wine tasting. Over the summer, several of the North Fork’s wines scored high marks from The Wine Advocate with Wölffer Estate Vineyard coming out on top for its Descencia Botrytis Chardonnay and Diosa Late Harvest. Paumanok Vineyards was awarded Winery of the Year Award at the 2015 New York Wine and Food Classic. We’re sure the region will continue to receive further accolades in the new year. So visit a vineyard, taste the wine and appreciate the beauty of the North Fork. Raise your glass!

North Fork Sunsets
Last month we shared this image taken by Harbes Family Farm in the fall season and it’s breathtaking. Mother nature paints the sky in beautiful pink and blue hues. You don’t have to go far when there is beauty in your own backyard.

All Things Organic
We are always a fan of fresh and local fruits and vegetables. Now if it’s also organic, well     that’s even better. We are thankful for our favorite organic farms, Sang Lee and Garden of Eve.  Not only because they produce an amazing product but because of the all the work they do to sustain an organic farm. It makes for great food and food products. Both farms offer Community Supported Agriculture. Which means you can have fresh organic, seasonal vegetables delivered to your door step. Sang Lee also offers Fresh-Lee delivered options that allow you to cook your own meals with ingredients from their farms as well as ready-to-eat options.  Now that’s definitely farm-to-table. Thank you!

Chocolates
Life is like a box of chocolates! We think Forest Gump got it wrong. At North Fork Chocolate Company you know what’re going to get–great chocolate! They handcraft a small batch of artisanal chocolates and gourmet desserts using products from local farmers on the east end of Long Island. Only fresh, natural ingredients go into their products. Belgian Chocolate is blended with wholesome creamery products and filled with fresh, local farm ingredients; fruits, vegetables, dairy, spirits, sea salt, herbs, and honey. The only problem is one piece will never be enough.

Pies
You can’t have a Thanksgiving without pie. One of our favorite places for pie is Briermere Farms. They have a variety of pies and they are entirely made from scratch. Not only is it local but they taste amazing. Although  they are best known for their pies, they also make bread, muffins, cookies, cakes, jams and jellies. There are no pre-prepared  ingredients or fillings bought for use. Most of the fresh fruit used in their bakery is grown on  their farm. This year Briermere Farms is featuring these mouthwatering seasonal pies; Apple Crisp, Blueberry, Blueberry Crisp, Cherry, Peach, Peach Cherry, Strawberry Rhubarb Raspberry, Raspberry Peach, Blackberry  Apple,  Pumpkin, Cherry Cream, Blueberry Cream, Raspberry Cream and Chocolate Cream.

If we were to list everything we were thankful for on the East End, the list would be endless. I guess we are just lucky to be on the North Fork.  What are you thankful for?
