Sep Fall for East End Pies

One thing that we welcome with the Fall season on the North Fork is the delicious pies that follow the harvest. With no shortage of farms on the East End, the bounty of the land is transformed into the delectable dessert that we all enjoy around the dinner table. While some pies are made directly from ingredients harvested on the island, others are made with the leftover fruit from the winemaking process at neighboring vineyards. The sense of community and resourcefulness that goes into each and every pie makes them a little sweeter. Here’s where we’re getting our pies this Fall.

Briermere Farms

Made right on the farm from scratch, Briermere Farms (4414 Sound Ave, Riverhead) is the go-to spot on the East End of Long Island for pies. Whether you’re a local or a visitor wanting to bring back a special treat for your loved ones, Briermere offers over 30 different types of pies. Alongside classics like Apple, Blueberry, and Rhubarb are more exotic pie flavors like Raspberry Plum, Boysenberry, Blackberry. And, of course, Pumpkin Pies delight dessert-eaters all around.

Modern Snack Bar

Located conveniently just 5 minutes east of downtown Riverhead, Modern Snack Bar’s (628 Main Rd, Aqueboque) is a landmark for home cooking. Freshly baked pies are available to take home and are offered in such flavors as Apple Crumb, Banana Cream, and Strawberry Rhubarb.

Harbes Farmstand – Mattituck

Besides selling the fruit and vegetables they grow, Harbes Mattituck Farmstand (715 Sound Ave, Mattituck) offers delicious pies baked on-site from the freshly harvested produce. While you’re shopping for pies, be sure to check out their selection of annual and perennial flowers and fresh herbs. Their concession stand also sells ready-to-eat sweet corn and delicious tomato mozzarella paninis.

Windy Acres Farm

Blueberry and Apple Walnut pies are the favorites at Windy Acre Farms (3810 Middle Country Rd, Calverton). They even offer sugar-free pie options, like Sugar-Free Apple pie. The farm is also plenty of fun for the whole family, offering pick-your-own vegetables like bell peppers and eggplant.
