May How to Spend Memorial Day Weekend on The East End

A nice, long weekend is coming up and we have a couple of great ideas for how you should spend the Memorial Day break!

New Suffolk Chowderfest

First up, the 9th annual New Suffolk Chowderfest is this Saturday, May 27th from 12pm – 3pm  at New Suffolk’s waterfront area. Local chefs will whip up an array of chowders bound to tantalize the tastebuds, alongside a “classic american BBQ lunch.” There will be live music by Who Are Those Guys, a “Chinese auction,” fun activities and face-painting for the kids,  and bright, colorful perennials for sale. Kids 12 and under get in free; otherwise, tickets are $25. The rain date for the event is May 29. Shuttle buses will be available to take festival-goers to and from Wickham’s Fruit Farm located at 28700 Main Rd. in Cutchogue to the waterfront.

Dan’s Papers Rosé Soiree

On Sunday, May 28th stop by the Southampton Arts Center for Dan’s Rosé Soiree. Taste some of the best rosés from the Hamptons, the North Fork, France, Spain and beyond, paired with chef tastings from top New York restaurants including Bistro 72’s own chef Deb Scherer.  There will also be craft cocktails made with local spirits and craft beer. Purchase your tickets here.

Art By Jim Sabiston & Michael McLaughlin

Next head over to the Rosalie Dimon Gallery at Jamesport Manor Inn on 370 Manor Lane for an art exhibition. This exhibit, open until July 26, features photographs by Michael McLaughlin and Jim Sabiston’s newest print series, Island. Sabiston uses photography and painting techniques in his prints and focuses on  islands, wind, and water coming together in his series. McLaughlin spent much of her career focusing on rural scenes, but has also expanded to include architecture. Call 631-727-0900 with questions or concerns.

Community Mosaic and Street Painting Festival

This Sunday at noon come stroll the grounds of downtown Riverhead, between Roanoke Ave and East Street, and on the grounds of East End Arts at 133 and 141 East Main Street where street artists will have left their mark. This Memorial Day weekend tradition draws over 5,000 local residents and tourists to downtown Riverhead where all gather to enjoy the creative work of talented artists. You can contribute to the street art as well by registering on this website or purchasing a square of space to paint on, day of, for $20. Chalk and blending materials are provided!

Take A Hike in Brookhaven State Park

A quick,17-minute drive from the hotel lies Brookhaven State Park, a 1,638-acre park open year-round on Saturdays and Sundays. You can stride through Brookhaven’s abundant trails or go hunting or horseback riding.

Long Island Science Center

Check out the Long Island Science Center, at it’s new home in Rocky Point, NY, a short drive from the hotel. It aims to provide help children learn in an interactive environment for children and families in STEM fields. This Saturday Nature Nick and his animal friends (a kangaroo, snake, bird of prey, and a monkey) are visiting. Show times are at noon and 2. Call 631-208-8000 to register your attendance!
