Dec Dan’s Papers Best of the Best Party in Downtown Riverhead

As everybody knows, Hotel Indigo East End is a huge supporter of our fellow local businesses, which is one of the reasons we were excited to attend the Dan’s Papers Best of the Best 2013 Party at the Suffolk Theater. We’re proud to announce that we won two awards: Hotel Indigo East End won an award for Best Hotel, and Bistro 72 won an award Best Night Spot! We had a great time hanging out with all of the local business owners and staff who have made Long Island’s East End the amazing place to eat, shop, live, and party that so many of us know and love.

Downtown Riverhead is the perfect spot to host an event like the Dan’s Papers Best of the Best Party;  the community is a testament to what’s possible when dedicated people get together to make something happen. Proof of how far Downtown Riverhead has come is evidenced by the East End Arts’ Holiday Window Decorating contest. Through a campaign to bring holiday cheer to a few vacant storefronts, East End Arts hosted a contest inviting locals to decorate the windows of uninhabited stores. While everyone loved the initiative and the festivity it brought to Downtown Riverhead, it added color to an an up and coming downtown, and gave us a glimpse of what our full downtown will look like in the near future.  For that we are incredibly thankful. An area that was once down and out, is now bustling with local commerce, and we’re elated that Downtown Riverhead has become a premier place to live, work and play.

One of the jewels of Downtown Riverhead, the Suffolk Theater, has reclaimed a place in the hearts of most East Enders. The Suffolk Theater has been around since December of 1933, at which time it wasproclaimed “Long Island’s prettiest and most complete playhouse.” Others called it “the Radio City Music Hall of Long Island.” Much like the area around it, the Suffolk Theater fell victim to hard times and economic decline, and experienced several years of dormancy. Just as the hard work and dedication of locals brought Downtown Riverhead back to life, the dedicated effort of a local family revived the Suffolk Theater, and restored it to the glamorous playhouse it once was.

The Dan’s Papers Best of the Best 2013 Party gave us the opportunity to celebrate our fabulous local businesses and community. What’s more, we were able to celebrate the history of Long Island’s East End, a place we grew up and still love to call home. Dan’s Papers is the source for local news of every kind, from arts and entertainment to real estate, food, and wine. Whether you’re a native East Ender, who wants to keep up with local events and happenings, or if you’re an out-of-towner looking for information on Long Island’s East End, Dan’s Papers is your one-stop-shop for everything you need to know.

Thanks again to all of our friends and family who voted Hotel Indigo East End as a Best of the Best Hotel and Bistro 72 as a Best of the Best Night Spot! We’re excited to continue providing you with the excellent accommodation and service you’ve come to expect, and we look forward to seeing you during your next visit to Long Island’s East End.
