26 Sep Things to Do in the Hamptons—Fall 2013 Guide
The autumn season has just begun, and the East End of Long Island is bustling with festive, fun events for you and your family! We’ve done a bit of research into the happenings out here, and have decided there’s just too much excitement to pack into one blog post, so we’re going to deliver you TWO posts full of fall entertainment, one that focuses on things to do in the Hamptons, and the other on what’s going on in the North Fork. That way you will be set with an agenda specific to the area you’re interested in visiting—both of which are a stone’s throw from Hotel Indigo East End, so you can come stay with us while enjoying these weekend activities!
This coming weekend (9/27-9) brings the Southampton Septemberfest to the South Fork, a three-day festival full of music, food, history, art, and tons more! This is the place to be if you’re looking for things to do in the Hamptons! The festival features art shows, street music, stagecoach rides, book sales, crafts, performances, food tastings, pumpkin carvers, hay rides and a chowder contest, just to mention a few of the many events. Tickets to the Southampton Septemberfest Kick-Off Party on Friday 9/27 can be purchased here!
Also this weekend, the Greater Westhampton Chamber of Commerce will be starting their Annual Fall Sidewalk Sale, which will run for three consecutive weekends (9/28-9, 10/5-6 and 10/12-4). The October Weekend Sidewalk Sale will be held at the same time as the October Arts and Crafts Show, which will be on the Village Green at Mill Road and Main Street. The Sidewalk Sale takes place along Main St., and runs from 10am to 6pm.
In addition, the Mightyman Olympic triathlon will be run in Montauk on Sunday the 29th. If you’re looking for things to do in the Hamptons, Montauk is only a bit further, and well worth the extra miles! The race includes a 1.5K swim, 40K bike, and 10K run, and will take place at Fort Pond in Montauk. It begins at 6:40am, and although online registration is closed, there will be limited slots available at check-in, and the price to participate is $195 for individuals, and $235 for relay teams.
Also in October, there will be a Halloween Spooktacular on Friday, October 11th for school-age children in the Westhampton area. For $64.95 ($49.95 for aquarium members), your little one can spend the night at the Long Island Aquarium and Exhibition Center in Riverhead, which includes dinner, breakfast, a movie, craft, animal interaction, and waking up next to one of the aquarium exhibits! The kids will get to enjoy a night of “creepy crawly craft time” and “monster mash dancing”—sounds like a blast! Reservations can be made by calling the aquarium at (631) 208-9200.
The Kiwanis Oyster Festival will be taking place on Saturday, October 12th at the Westhampton Beach Marina, and will be raising awareness about our Waterways and the importance of preserving their Ecosystems. In addition to great, local seafood, participants will enjoy music, kids’ rides, and other marine-related interests. The festival starts at 10am, and will run until 6pm (raindate is scheduled for Sunday, October 13th).
There will be a Farmer’s Market on the Green (across from the Chamber building) in Montauk on Thursday, October 17th from 9am-2pm as well!
We encourage you to get out and enjoy the beautiful autumn weather with your family and friends by getting involved in all these fun things to do in the Hamptons, and don’t forget—the doors at Hotel Indigo East End are always open to you!
